The challenge

Field engineers recorded work on paper, photographed it and sent it to a back office that re-entered everything. Invoicing lagged completion by weeks, disputes were hard to resolve, and connectivity at many sites was unreliable enough that a purely online app would not have been used.

The approach

  1. 01

Ran contextual research with engineers on site to design for gloves, sunlight and intermittent signal.

  2. 02

Built an offline-first application with a conflict-resolving sync layer and queued media upload.

  3. 03

Integrated with the existing ERP so completed jobs flowed to invoicing without re-entry.

  4. 04

Added structured capture for photographs, readings and customer signature at point of completion.

  5. 05

Instrumented adoption per depot so rollout could be sequenced against actual usage.

The outcome

Job data captured once, at source, with invoicing triggered by completion rather than by a back-office queue.
