In detail

Modernising a system you cannot switch off

Most of the estates we are asked to modernise are running the business right now. Rewrites that go dark for nine months are how those projects fail. We use an incremental route where every step is independently valuable and independently reversible.

  1. 01 — Establish a safety net

    Characterisation tests, monitoring and a reproducible environment for the existing system, so any change can be verified rather than hoped about.

  2. 02 — Draw the seam

    Route traffic through a facade so old and new implementations can serve the same endpoint and be switched per route, per tenant or per percentage.

  3. 03 — Migrate by slice

    Move one bounded capability at a time, highest risk-adjusted value first, with the old path kept warm until the new one has proven itself in production.

  4. 04 — Decommission deliberately

    Retire legacy components only once traffic, data and reporting have been verified against them, and archive what compliance requires you to keep.

Advisory engagements are priced and contracted independently of any build that follows, and the deliverable is yours to take to any vendor. If we think the right answer is an off-the-shelf product or your existing team, that is what the report will say.

How quickly can a due diligence be turned around?

A focused technical due diligence typically takes one to two weeks depending on codebase size and access. Compressed timelines are possible for live transactions if repository and infrastructure access is arranged upfront.
